Everyone has a personality. Some people have similar personalities, some are completely different. Our personalities can even change over time and depending on our environment! What’s unique about a brand personality is that you get to choose what it is! Your decision is important, though. It’s not just a shot in the dark, or whatever one seems the most interesting that day. Your brand’s personality will have an impact on a lot of the other decisions you’ll make about your brand. This includes the overall design, look, and feel of your brand, as well as how your customers see you. It also will affect your internal culture and the way you and your team interact with customers.
Your Brand Personality
There are many types of personalities, but when it comes to branding, we like to stick to the 5 main personalities. We’ll walk you through them. As you read, think about your brand and which personality is the best fit for your business!
Sincere
A sincere brand is often seen as a small town, down-to-earth, friendly, and wholesome brand. It’s cheerful and sentimental, and often family-oriented.
Some examples of sincere brands are Disney, Hallmark, Pampers, and Dove.
Excitement
A brand that represents excitement is often young, contemporary, and up-to-date on all things trendy. It can be imaginative, unique, or daring!
Red Bull, Axe, Nike, and MTV are great examples of excitement brands.
Competent
A competent brand is one that is reliable, intelligent, and successful. It’s secure and hard-working — often seem most in the technical and corporate worlds.
Some competent brands are Microsoft, UPS, Google, and Volvo.
Sophisticated
The sophisticated brands are glamorous, good-looking, smooth, and attractive. In other words, they represent the upper-class, and are charming and desirable.
Sophisticated brand examples are Prada, BMW, and Rolex.
Rugged
Rugged brands are tough, bold, wild, unrefined, and outdoorsy. They’re more likely represented in the country and have more of a western feel.
Some examples of rugged brands are Jeep, Harley Davidson, Coleman, and Columbia Sportswear.
Brand Personality and Your Business
Customers are more likely to make purchases and feel more loyal to a company that has a similar personality to themselves. For this reason, it’s important that you know who your target audience is, so that you can connect with them better.
