Questions For Your Brand Designer

Looking for a brand designer?

The word “brand” is getting tossed around a lot these days. Whether it’s an Instagram influencer talking about their personal brand, someone saying they need to rebrand themselves as a person, or a business going through an actual branding process. Sometimes we worry that with all the overuse of the word, it’s starting to lose its meaning. Sometimes people use it to simply mean updating their logo. Others use it to mean they’re going to work to become a new person. And we use it very differently.

Planning a rebrand or a new brand?

If you’re in the process of looking for a company to help you with a branding project, you want to make sure they’re going to do it right. How can you know the answer before diving in? We’re providing you with a few questions to ask before beginning the process. These questions will weed out those who don’t plan to provide you with a full rebrand experience.

1. What does your branding process include? Does it include strategy or is it only design?

This is an important question. Your brand is so much more than your logo and the look of your signage or advertisements. You want a company that will be eager to discover what makes your business tick, and excited to share that with your customers.

What you want to hear them say is that their process includes both. You begin with the strategy, and the design comes afterward to support it.

2. What file types will be included in my final brand package?

A JPG is good, but it won’t meet your needs forever. Make sure this company plans to hand over JPGs, PNGs with transparent backgrounds for web and print use, and the vector files. It’s always best to have black and white logo versions as well as full colour. Colour codes are very helpful to have as well, to make sure everything created for your company will match.

3. How involved will I need to be in the process?

This is one of those situations where you want a healthy balance. You don’t want to have to be constantly speaking with your brand designer after the initial consultations and discussions, but you do want to have some regular updates on the progress so that you can provide feedback on what is being designed. If you spend time at the beginning going over the desired direction of the brand and strategy for design, they should have all the information they need to move forward.
