For years, marketers were really good at pushing their product on to people. Their goal was to persuade and convince.  As consumers, we had no choice.

If you wanted to watch TV, you had to watch the commercials. If you wanted to listen to the radio, you had to listen to the ads. And every business pushing their product on you were saying the same thing! It went something like this….

“9 out of 10 think we’re awesome!   Money Back Guarantee!   Buy 1 and Get 1 Free!    Amazing Deal!   Hurry! Time is Running Out!!!”   You remember, right?

But today, we have a choice. We can ignore and walk away much easier than in the past. Today, we have Netflix, and we can stream our music commercial free. We have web browsers with multiple tabs, so we do not have to watch commercials if we do not want to.

Today, effective marketers are pulling people in. They are giving people substance and genuinely appealing to people by creating an engaging message that people want to take part in. Today, brands need to be authentic and engaging –  existing for a reason that makes people want to interact with them.

The rule to just be yourself and people will love you works for businesses too!
