A newsletter is a great way to keep in touch with your customers and update them on the developments and changes within your company. It can help you promote new products or services, or provide special offers to your most dedicated followers. If you’re looking for some inspiration on how to begin or rejuvenate your newsletter experience, we’re here to help.

Creative subject lines

If you’ve invested in the brand of your company, you know your customers through and through. This means you know what interests them and what will entice them to read more! Coming up with a subject line that’s short and snappy and gets people wanting more may take a bit of time and effort, but you’ll see the fruit of it when data comes back on how many people opened your email! Here are the ingredients for awesome email subject lines:

  • Deliverability
  • Actionability
  • Personalization
  • Clarity
  • Brevity
  • Consistency

Want to see how your subject line scores? Check it here.

Primary call to action

Don’t try to do too much with one newsletter. This is meant to be a bite-sized read, not a huge info dump. Keeping it consistent with your fun subject line, zero in on your selected topic and don’t get off track!

What you do & how you can help

If it works with your primary call to action, mention ways that your business can help with the services or products that you offer. This could be worked into the body copy, or it could just mean some listed services below. If you can link this directly to the service page(s) on your site, that’s even better!

Something light and fun

Remember to be light-hearted. Maybe include a relevant inspirational quote or joke that your readers will enjoy. For some, this might even be the highlight of your newsletter!

Blog

Sharing your blog though your newsletter is a great way to get more people reading and aware of your posts. If your blog posts tend to be wordy, it’s a good idea to give them a little taste of your post within the newsletter email. You can encourage them to keep reading by including a “read more” button that takes them to the full article.

Minimal copy and design

This has been mentioned in a few of the other tips, but it’s important enough to stand alone as well. Don’t overwhelm your audience! Keep your words to a minimum and try to stick with a clean and simple design. If your newsletter is too long and/or too busy, some people may close the email without reading a word!

Contact Info

Be sure to offer your readers multiple opportunities to contact you or access your website. You can do this by adding buttons, text links or linked social media icons, or by including a contact section at the bottom of your newsletter email.
