Focusing on your customers is vital. There is so much to be learned by recognizing the strategy involved in examples of great branding when a company recognizes that their customers need to be understood. One perfect example of this is the new branding put in place for Reitmans; the Montreal-based clothing company.
Sure, they could advertise new patterns, bright summer colours, or even a huge sale but those kinds of ads don’t really stick the way they used to. These days we are looking for a human connection, a moment that makes us say “I remember thinking that exact same thing!”, and that’s just what we thought when watching this new commercial.
These are real women whose thought processes are so relatable. Though each one of them feels some insecurity when it comes to their look, it’s the clothes that make them feel confident. In the end these women don’t just look good, they feel good too.
What does this mean for you, your company and your brand? Are you finding that your customers feel their needs aren’t met? Or do they feel at home when they visit your store or talk to your staff members on the phone? Do you have comfortable chairs in the lobby and offer coffee and snacks during meetings? Do you ask them how they enjoyed their weekends or, at the very least, remember their name when you see them again?
Here’s the first step: make an effort. Get out and talk to your customers, do what you need to in order to understand them. When you do that, you’ll be able to meet their needs in a completely new way. They’ll appreciate the effort.
Your customers will really respond when they can see that you understand them.
